Ripon

Ripon is a small town in the Fox Valley with a growing downtown and many events throughout the year. If you happen to stop by, check out one of these places where you can find vegan food. They’re organized here alphabetically

(Note: I will be updating this page as I explore more).

Fox and Crow Bistro

My meal at Fox and Crow was simply exquisite.

The focaccia was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! For our main meal, the chef came to talk to us about vegan options and suggested vegetables with some kind of mole sauce: we were sold at the idea, and the execution was perfect! I wanted to eat every different ingredient separately because everything was so full of flavor: fingerling potatoes, porcini mushrooms, peas, broccoli, dates, sweet potato purée, sprinkled peanuts.

Simply put, a delight.

(Please note: all their pasta have eggs, so a vegan pasta dish is not an option at this time)

Knuth Brewing Company (KBC)

The pizzas are quite good at Knuth and you can “make your own” vegan one. The crust is really thin and crispy. They have “white” and red pizza… if you skip the cheese on the white pizza, the base will just be olive oil, which I’ve come to really enjoy! Many toppings are available, pictured here if my favorite combo: mushrooms, kalamata olives and basil.

The beers brewed in-house are very popular in the area, and you can take a peek at the brewing area in the back of the middle room. Unfortunately, none of the desserts are vegan. But you can have pretzel bites as an appetizer: skip the caramel, careful with the spicy mustard!

It’s a very large space and there are games in one of the rooms.

Mugs (and more)

Located right downtown on Watson St. (with some street parking on the street and a free parking lot in the back) Mugs is the main café in town and has non-dairy milk options for fancy drinks, along with a few veganizable items for food.

Pictured here are the “hummus wraps” with chips and the “avocado toast” (which is actually two toasts). Both are really tasty.

The place itself is really cute and has ample seating, at tables or on couches. And in the winter you can sit by an electric fireplace!

Public House

Located right downtown (perfect before seeing a movie a the original Marcus theater), Public House has a few vegan and veganizable items.

We tried the Tofu Bow (vegan as is)l, which was delicious, and a vegan version of the veggies wrap. I swapped the dressing for a gigner carrot dressing which I loved! The wrap seemed a little small, but the portion of fries was generous.

The staff was helpful and knowledgeable about making items on their menu vegan, which is always great. And the margarita was excellent!
