Watertown

Watertown is a town of about 22,000 people in Litchfield County, not far from Waterbury. It has a variety of options, but my favorite by far is the cupcakes!

Hardcore Sweet Bakery

Who needs a real restaurant when you can have vegan cupcakes!

Located right downtown, Hardcore Sweet has the best vegan cupcakes I’ve ever had. Super creamy, many different flavors rotating daily, and very friendly staff!

They have a fun space with a couple of tables (and barber chairs!) for you to enjoy the cupcakes right there and then… but they’re so good you’ll be tempted to get some to go too!

Thai Bowl

Well, for those who need a real restaurant, a great option for vegans in Watertown is Thai Bowl, right on Main Street.

They have several vegan items on their menu (they’re not labeled as such, so make sure to mention you’re vegan) such as edamame, rolls, curries and rice bowl.

The portions are generous, you’ll be set for a while, and the staff is very friendly.

A delight!

Buddha Bistro

Located right next to the Om Center (if you’re looking for a yoga class), the Buddha Bistro is a nice little restaurant with some vegan options, even for dessert (as you can se with the peanut butter cup pictured).

A few items are marked as vegan, and some you can modify to make vegan. There are some excellent drinks too!

Note that they accept cash only, but there is an ATM right in the restaurant if you don’t have any or enough.

Simply Bowls

Located on Main Street, right in front of the library, Simply bowls has a beautiful space and a ton of smoothies and juices! They have some outdoor seating too.

Some food items are vegan, but you need to talk to the staff because it’s not always what you think: the falafels, for example, have eggs. They are very nice about helping you find something though! We had the jasmine bowl, which was good, and the ancient grains bowl, with an interesting combination of sweet potatoes, cauliflowers and Brussels sprouts with farro and quinoa.

The local 63

Located right next to Simply Bowls is The Local 63, which is a nice restaurant with a vegan appetizer, a vegan entrée, and a vegan sandwich.

The garlic tahini dip for starters was delicious! I enjoyed my vegan “chicken” sandwich, with seitan, although the bread was a little dry, and the crispy tofu bowl was a hit!

They have a large space with some outdoor seating, and old photos of Watertown all around.
