Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin Dells is such a strange and interesting town, full of man-made grandiose water parks and mini golf courses, and natural geological rock formations. If you’ve never been and don’t live too far, I recommend it! The town is famous for its Upper Dells River Cruise, and there are also some trails to explore in town.

We went for the natural beauty and were not disappointed.

There are a few options for vegans in town, here are my two favorites:

  • Pizza Lab

  • Mexicali Rose

Pizza Lab

This is a “make your own” pizza place, that works like a fast-food restaurant where you pick your toppings while in line.

They have vegan cheese and many veggies for toppings… as well as black beans as a protein option! I had never had black beans on a pizza before! You can add a drizzle after it’s cooked, they’re clearly marked vegan: we enjoyed the balsamic glaze.

The pizza was made fast and was very good, I only wish they had vegan deserts too!

Mexicali Rose

The staff at Mexicali Rose was very accommodating and new how to veganize their menu, which I always appreciate.

There are several vegetarian options on the menu that you could make vegan, and we chose the cauliflower tacos (minus the slaw), which were very tasty, and we ordered a side of black beans for protein: be aware that the side is huge. I think they gave us a whole can of black beans as a side! We also had guacamole, of course, which was smooth. If you want to give your dishes a little bit more spice, ask for the diablo sauce!

One really nice thing about the place too is the patio in the back with view of the lower dells, and despite being near a big intersection, it was quiet back there, maybe because of the sound of the water from the dam.

For more info, check out their website here.

If you go to either or have more places to recommend, let me know in the comments below!
