Newport State Park

One of the five State Parks in Door County, Newport State Park is located on the northern part of the peninsula, right along Lake Michigan. If you’d rather see the park, click here!

Otherwise, keep reading as I tell you about some of the trails in the park!

(For a full map of all the trails, click here.)

View of Lake Michigan from the beach between campsites 8 and 9.

Rowley’s Trail

Rowley’s Trail starts right across from the visitor center and is a technical trail full of rocks and roots! It’ll take you to site 8, 9, and 10, if you’re camping them.

It takes about a mile and a half to reach the closest campsite. The trail is fairly well marked, but you’ll be focused on your footwork, so make sure not to miss turns of maps. Grab a map at the visitor center to help you navigate!

It does loop and is 4 miles total, with a section going right along the lake.

View of Europe Bay from a viewpoint on the Europe Trail.

Europe Trail

This trail goes north from the swimming beach area, and loops back. It is about 7 miles long total. Some of it is shared with bicycles and some of it is shared with the Holtz Trail.

It is a nice woodsy trail, but not much of it goes right by the water, although it is right by Europe Bay.

It is an easy trail, mostly flat.

Poetry Trail

This is another loop starting right from the visitor’s center.

Be aware that some of it is very exposed if you go there on a sunny day. It is an easy, quite flat, and wide trail.

It is only .6 miles but if you stop to read all the poems it might take you a while!

I will have to go back to explore some of the other trails! Which one would you recommend? Let me know in the comments below!
