Vegan in Cancún - downtown

If you go to the Yucatán region of Mexico, you’ll most likely use the airport in Cancún. It is a bit of a party town and mostly has two sections for tourists: the “zona hotelera” (big -- often all inclusive – resorts and the beaches) and “el centro”, the downtown with smaller hotels and many restaurants.

If you travel by bus to other cities in the area, a cheap, easy, and comfortable way to do so is to use the bus company ADO. They have buses that leave right from the airport, but if you’re spending any time in Cancún before moving on, there is a downtown bus station you can use also.

Here are two restaurants located not far from that bus station so you can fuel up on delicious food!

Bao vegan

Had an exquisite dinner at Bao vegan, a 100% vegan restaurant located about 12 minutes from the downtown ADO bus station. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions (the chorizo is made from chickpeas; the cheese and cream from a mix of nuts and tofu).

The drinks were very refreshing, the presentation of the food great and everything we ordered tasted great. Pictured here are the hummus with chipotle, the veggie tacos and the enmoladas. The drinks are a mocha frappé and a passion fruit water. Each entrée was about 5 dollars. Don’t forget to tip (usually between 10 and 15%)!

Sirena Morena

It was hard to find this restaurant (the entrance was hidden behind parked cars) but definitely worth it! Had a delicious and filling breakfast of vegan French toast (about 8.5 dollars) in a beautiful and cosy garden setting.

This place is about ten minutes from the ADO bus station, so perfect if you’re just getting to town or to eat before a long bus ride. Everything is vegetarian, with many and clearly labeled vegan options!
